I found this memoir remarkable for Yamas’ ability to write through his drug use and not around it. Leaning to impairment, he invites the reader to examine their own. TWEAKERWORLD won the 2024 Lambda Literary Gay Memoir/Bio Award. My review appears in Issue 4 of THE WHITNEY REVIEW, now printed by Asterism.
Yamas spent a long year high on the duo of Meth and GBL, one a stimulant, the other a sedative/cleaning solvent, both highly addictive substances that grift the human spirit with promises of uncomplicated bliss and relief. His sojourn in the titular sex-fueled dystopia of users occurred during the political ascension of quintessential grifter Trump, which in retrospect doesn’t seem like the worst cope.”
